First Full Moon of the Year- Capricorn/Cancer

As we enter into the 9th of January, 2012, we experience the first full moon of the year - leaving Capricorn and moving into Cancer. Cancer and Capricorn are both cardinal signs & the doorways of our home life and career life; our emotions and our responsibilities. The year 2012 is one of change, however as many of you will notice- what we perceive as the ideal is far more advanced than the present can handle. Thus, we should try our best to bridge the gap between responsibility and emotion. Use the best tools from both worlds to bring about the change we want to see in this new year.

So instead of ‘resolutions’, I’m gonna make a list of Things to Meditate and Reflect Upon:

  • resolve old family issues, establish emotional and professional boundaries
  • free myself from pre-conceived expectations
  • acceptance of the constant here and now
  • reconcile contrasting identities of self
  • know thyself as ever-changing mix of internal/external

See you on the New Moon: January 23 AKA Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year!!

Carleton Watkins and the Photographs that saved Yosemite, 1861

In 1861 – only 10 years after it had been ‘discovered’ – Carleton E Watkins wandered the Yosemite valley, with camera equipment that weighed close to a tonne strapped to his team of mules, and snapped the awesome images that inspired Abraham Lincoln to secure the world’s first national park. Here is a selection of those images by one of the world’s earliest environmentalists.
